Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end. (John 13:1 NLT)
Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him, the disciples would dessert Him, and Peter would deny Him. But He loved them anyway and chose to demonstrate that love by washing their feet--a task normally assigned the lowest servant.
Even knowing our short-comings, sins, and failures God still loves us--to the end. Maybe it's because Jesus also knows our potential.
Jesus knew Peter would preach to thousands after the resurrection--He also knew Judas would never repent. But He washed the feet of both.
Can we receive Jesus' love even when we don't deserve it? Can we give that love to others when they don't deserve it?
Prayer: Father God thanks for loving me in my failures. Holy Spirit please help me to love others in their failures.
